A Lifetime of Healthy Choices Starts Here

No matter what stage of life you or your family is at, SVMC’s Women’s and Children’s Services is here to see you through it together.

From your first moments as a new family through all the years of earaches, injuries, and more, our Magnet-recognized nursing team and board-certified physicians do more than just care for you; they care about you.

The birth of your child is a once-in-a-lifetime event. No matter how many times a woman might give birth, each experience is special in its own way. That's why our goal at The Birth Place is to put you in control. We support your birthing choices and work make your experience as unique and special as you are.

Our team of four Ob/Gyn physicians are all certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and work closely with a top-notch group of certified nurse midwives.

We offer beautifully furnished private birthing rooms where you will stay through all phases of your baby's delivery. These rooms have state-of-the-art whirlpool tubs where you can relax during labor. And, each room has appropriate technology to keep you and your baby safe.

We also offer a comfortable environment for your support person to spend the night. Your family is welcome to visit you, take part in your birth, or relax in the family lounge, whatever you decide.

Controlling pain is important to your birthing experience. You are in control, and we offer a wide range of options to manage pain. You can choose the breathing and other relaxation techniques, alternative pain management, or pain medicine such as an epidural or spinal block.

Should you need a Cesarean birth, our hospital has a dedicated operating suite standing by just down the hall from your room.

Choosing the doctors and nurses who will care for your baby or your children is a big decision. You want to make sure they have the best skills and technology as well as a warm and caring personality. Our medical staff has five pediatricians who are all certified in their specialties by the American Board of Pediatrics. We also have a pediatric nurse practitioner who is dedicated to caring for newborns and children. Our nurses are cross-trained in pediatric nursing and have been recognized for excellence with Magnet recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. They provide the best care possible but with a warm, home-town touch that shows they truly care about you and your family.

Kids don’t come with instruction manuals, so SVMC offers a wide range of classes. Whether you are a new mother wanting to learn basic child care or a grandparent looking to brush up your skills, we have a class for you.  See our current list of classes. If you are having trouble registering, please call (802) 447-5019.

Keeping your children safe when they ride in a car is no easy task. From infants to school-age children, there are special recommendation and seats for them all. And there are literally hundreds of car seats that you can buy. No wonder it’s so tough. SVMC has trained car seat safety experts who can advise you on the best type of seat for your baby or child. Then, we can help you get it installed correctly. It’s all part of our goal to keep you and your baby health and happy.
